Why It Matters
80% of cats and dogs over 3 years old have dental/gum disease! And it doesn't stay in the mouth:
- Increases risk of heart disease
- Can damage the kidneys and liver
- Chronic pain = poor quality of life
- Can't eat = weight loss
Signs of Dental Disease 🦷
- Bad breath (halitosis)
- Yellow/brown tartar
- Red, swollen gums
- Difficulty/pain while eating

- Facial swelling
Home Dental Care 💡
Gold standard: Daily brushing!
- Pet-specific toothpaste (human toothpaste is FORBIDDEN!)
- Finger brush or soft brush
- Introduce gradually
- Even 2-3 times a week helps
Alternatives:
- Dental health kibble
- Dental chews
- Water additives
⚠️ These don't REMOVE tartar, they only SLOW its formation!
Professional Dental Cleaning
An annual dental check is recommended. If tartar has formed:
- Ultrasonic cleaning under anesthesia
- Subgingival cleaning
- Polishing
- Extraction if needed
BEWARE of "anesthesia-free dental cleaning" ads! They only do surface cleaning — the real problem is under the gumline!
